So far fishing this winter has been hit and miss. Fishing for Walleyes has been pretty good with more of the bites happening on humps and points in 10-20 feet of water. For this bite a deadstick with a minnow in combination with jigging a Chubby Darter, Jigging Rap, Northlan Flyer, or a buckshot rattle spoon have been working well. Perch are a little harder to find, and they can be there one day and gone the next. Perch have been hitting on halis, genz worms, and small jigging spoons tipped with spikes, waxi's, or minnow heads, and on small minnows on a plane hook. Perch are deeper 25-45 feet of water. The pike fishing has been pretty good in some of the area lakes as well with good reports coming from Morson lake and lake Irvine. Smelt or herring on tip-ups and jigging soft plastics have been working here. With this weekends storm travel on the lake will most likely become difficult. There are roads being plowed out of Ackerman Acres which is about 3-4 miles East of Devils Lake on Hwy 2, the Spirit Lake Casino which is south of the town of Devils Lake, and Woodland Resort which is West of Devils Lake on Hwy 19. Good luck!
